Disney's Star Wars Hotel Galactic Starcruiser Closes Doors After 19 Months

The Star Wars hotel at Walt Disney World in Florida was an ambitious project that aimed to immerse guests in a 48-hour Star Wars adventure. The hotel, called Galactic Starcruiser, was priced around $5,000 for a cabin with two guests and $6,000 for a cabin with four guests.

According to former Disney CEO Bob Chapek's new book 'Behind the Castle Walls: My Thirty Years at the Happiest Place on Earth,' the hotel's concept was to provide an immersive experience that would make guests feel like they were truly in space. The hotel featured themed rooms, meals, and activities, as well as a 4-hour port excursion to Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge.

Despite its initial success, with some guests reportedly in tears at the end of their three-day stay, the hotel permanently closed just 19 months after opening in March 2022. Chapek attributes the closure to the high labor costs and luxury prices, which made it difficult for the hotel to be profitable.

In his book, Chapek also notes that when Bob Iger returned as Disney's CEO following his departure, Iger viewed the Starcruiser as something connected to his time in charge, contributing to the reasons to close it. The closure of the Starcruiser has been met with both sadness and relief from fans, who had grown attached to the unique experience.
