Disney's Third Round of Layoffs Targets Tech and HR
Rumors of impending layoffs at Disney have finally been confirmed by Deadline. The cuts are primarily centered in tech and HR, affecting 'a couple hundred' people. This is the third round of layoffs since Josh D'Amaro took over as CEO of the Walt Disney Company.
The previous rounds saw 1,000 employees let go in April and another wave in July that included Pixar and National Geographic. The latest layoffs had been rumored earlier this month and were all but confirmed when a memo from Disney Vice President Horacio Gutierrez leaked. It indicates AI will be replacing some in the workforce.
Disney's TV and motion picture studios are exempt from the layoffs, but restructuring of those divisions is expected under new Disney President and Chief Creative Officer Dana Walden. This could lead to more layoffs, though a timeline for those changes is unclear.
