Disney's Unexpected Approach to Alien and Predator Franchises
The acquisition of 20th Century Fox by Walt Disney Company in 2019 sparked concerns about the fate of several franchises, including Alien and Predator.
At the time, both franchises had released underwhelming films at the box office (Alien: Covenant in 2017 and The Predator in 2018), leading many to assume that Disney would abandon them.
However, over the past seven years, the now-renamed 20th Century Studios has taken a different approach. They have released multiple installments across various mediums for both franchises, including Alien: Romulus (theatrical release), Alien: Earth (TV series with a second season in production), and an upcoming sequel to Covenant directed by Ridley Scott.
The same strategy is applied to the Predator franchise, which has seen films like Prey (streaming-exclusive), Predator: Killer of Killers (animated anthology), and Predator: Badlands released under 20th Century Studios. Each film in both franchises has been distinct, exploring different time periods and characters.
