DLSS 5 Launches with NBA2K27, Despite Controversy
Nvidia's long-awaited DLSS 5 technology will finally launch on September 3 with the release of NBA2K27. The tech is expected to deliver a dramatic leap in visual realism, but its use has been shrouded in controversy since its initial reveal.
DLSS 5 uses generative AI to create realistic graphics, which some critics have argued can be overly reliant on artificial intelligence rather than human creativity. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang defended the technology, saying it would provide a new level of authentic sports experience for players.
The tech will only work with RTX 50-series GPUs and mobile GPUs, as well as through GeForce Now. Early testing has shown that DLSS 5 can be very resource-intensive, resulting in severe drops in frame rate when used.
