DLSS 5's Inflated Frame Rate Numbers Exposed
Nvidia's DLSS 5 technology was touted to deliver unprecedented performance gains, but an analysis by XenoSpectrum reveals a more nuanced story. The company claimed that the GeForce RTX 5090 could hit 797 frames per second (FPS) on NBA 2K27 with DLSS 5 enabled.
However, when the actual rendered frame rate is calculated by dividing Nvidia's displayed FPS figures by six, the result is a more modest 133 FPS. This discrepancy has been observed across the entire RTX 50 series stack, with estimates ranging from 43 to 133 FPS at 1080p.
The power consumption of the RTX 5090 Founders Edition also comes into question, as it reaches its 575W power limit when running DLSS 5 neural rendering. This could result in reduced performance gains and increased electricity costs.
