Dolly Parton was once set to star in an animated Disney movie called My Peoples. The project, which aimed to celebrate Appalachian culture, was being developed by Walt Disney Feature Animation Florida in the early 2000s.

The story centered around two rival families whose long-standing feud is complicated by a romance between members of the clans. The film drew inspiration from Appalachian folklore and storytelling, making Dolly Parton's involvement seem like a natural fit.

Born and raised in East Tennessee, Parton's music has frequently drawn from her Appalachian upbringing. She was attached to the project as part of its voice cast alongside other performers including Ashley Judd, Travis Tritt, and Charles Durning.

Unfortunately, Disney's plans for My Peoples never made it to theaters. The studio abandoned several projects during a major period of transition in its animation division.
