Dow Gives Back Bounce as Factory Output Stalls
The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) has given back its Thursday bounce, trading near 51,500 after factory output stalled in August. The index's four industrial members - Caterpillar, Honeywell, Boeing, and 3M - hold 15.7% of the DJIA.
Industrial production was flat in August against a forecasted 0.3%, with Caterpillar, Honeywell, Boeing, and 3M selling machines, controls, and adhesives to factories that are not making more.
Kansas City Fed President Schmid supported Wednesday's increase, saying recent data puts the inflation trend above 3%. The 10-year Treasury yield is back above 5%, affecting aircraft financing and corporate borrowing for Boeing's customers and other DJIA members.
