Dow Jones Stocks Yielding Over 2.9% Amid Index's Record Highs
The Dow Jones Industrial Average has reached new highs, but dividend yields for some of its components have been compressed. This phenomenon is evident among five stocks that yield 2.9% or more: Verizon Communications at 5.66%, Nike Inc at 4.20%, Chevron Corporation at 3.45%, Procter & Gamble at 3.00%, and International Business Machines at 2.89%. The Dow's year-to-date performance has been mixed, with three of these high-yielders trading higher.
Verizon and Chevron have posted strong gains of 22.8% and 35.3%, respectively. In contrast, IBM has fallen 21.0% and Nike has declined 38.7%, trading at multi-year lows. This divergence highlights how similar yield levels can mask vastly different underlying stock dynamics.
The Dow Jones ETF is up 9.8% year-to-date, trailing the S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100. Many Dow components have long histories of raising dividend payouts, which could support yield stability despite recent price movements.
