Dow Jones Surges Past 54,000 as US Stock Market Sees Record Highs
The US stock market saw a significant surge on August 4, with the Dow Jones hitting a new record high of 54,272.60 and the S&P 500 index reaching an all-time high as well. The Nasdaq Composite index also rose by 2%.
The robust earnings and hopes for improved transit through the Strait of Hormuz contributed to the optimism on Wall Street. Caterpillar and McDonald's reported better-than-expected quarterly earnings, while Qatar signaled progress towards a short-term deal between the US and Iran. Crude oil prices fell 2%, and Treasury note yields declined.
The Dow Jones ended at 54,085.88, with a gain of 907.47 points or 1.71%. The S&P 500 index rose by 136.02 points or 1.8% to trade around 7,736.52. The Nasdaq Composite index climbed by 671.10 points or 2.6% to end at 26,584.99.
Major tech stocks performed well, with SpaceX rising by 9.4%, Advanced Micro Devices Inc climbing 7%, and Nvidia increasing 3%. Apple and Google stock also rallied 1% each. However, investors remain cautious due to the evolving geopolitical situation, as stated by Ponmudi R, CEO of Enrich Money.
