The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) is experiencing a wobble on Monday due to rising oil prices and decreased traffic through the Strait of Hormuz. Brent crude, the global oil benchmark, has increased by nearly 4% as Iran asserts its control over the waterway.

According to data analytics firm Kpler, only six vessels crossed through Hormuz on Sunday, a significant drop from the 15 that passed through on Friday and 11 on Saturday. Iran's economy relies heavily on oil exports, which account for around 15% of its gross domestic product (GDP). The country is estimated to have lost approximately 40% of its crude and condensate exports since July.

President Trump stated that the U.S. is taking a restrained approach with Iran, likening the situation to a chess game. However, Tehran has published a list of demands for the complete reopening of Hormuz, including war damage reparations, an end to U.S. military action and threats against Iran, and the release of billions of dollars in frozen assets.

The Dow Jones is currently down by 0.26%, with software stocks leading the tech sector higher. Microsoft (MSFT) and Salesforce (CRM) are among the gainers, while Nvidia (NVDA) has dropped over 2% due to pressure from Microsoft's upcoming AI chip launch. Chevron (CVX), the sole energy stock in the DJIA, is rising alongside higher oil prices.
