Dow Jumps 509 Points as Traders Set Aside Inflation Concerns
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rebounded sharply on Friday, gaining 509.19 points or 0.98% to close at 52,573.29. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite also rose, with the former up 0.86% to 7,656.98 and the latter increasing by 0.96% to 26,333.04.
The rally was led by technology stocks, with Hewlett Packard Enterprise and Dell Technologies both gaining close to double digits following positive brokerage commentary on artificial-intelligence infrastructure demand. Cisco Systems was the Dow's biggest percentage gainer, while Caterpillar provided the largest points boost.
Oil prices cooled down slightly amid Middle East tensions, with West Texas Intermediate futures settling at $100.05 a barrel and Brent easing to $104.61. Despite this, WTI still climbed nearly 10% on the week and Brent almost 9%, reflecting higher energy costs that continue to filter through to consumer prices.
