Dow Plunges Over 300 Points as Energy Sector Defies Trend

The Dow Jones index fell over 300 points on Monday, marking a decline of 0.61% to 53,232.50.

The NASDAQ slipped 0.45% to 26,282.51, while the S&P 500 dropped 0.48% to 7,675.08.

The energy sector was a notable exception, with shares jumping by 2% on Monday.

The communication services sector, however, fell by 1.7% in trading on Monday.

Science Applications International Corporation (NASDAQ:SAIC) shares led the gains among equities, rising around 7% after the company reported better-than-expected second-quarter financial results and raised its FY27 guidance.

The company's quarterly earnings of $3.01 per share beat the analyst consensus estimate of $2.31 per share, while its quarterly sales of $1.880 billion exceeded the estimated $1.766 billion.
