Dow Stock Drops as UBS Cuts Price Target Amid Sector Headwinds
Dow Inc.'s (NYSE:DOW) stock is facing selling pressure on Friday afternoon due to a price target cut from Wall Street. UBS analyst Joshua Spector maintained his Neutral rating but reduced his 12-month price target for Dow from $32 to $30, citing ongoing margin pressures in the global commodity chemicals sector.
The chemicals industry is struggling with slower-than-anticipated recovery in global industrial demand, which is limiting pricing power across core segments. Europe's industrial weakness and China's lack of economic stimulus are also weighing on polyethylene margins.
Dow's operating leverage is expected to remain constrained through the end of the year due to customer destocking and elevated raw material costs. The company's inability to pass input costs down to consumers is further exacerbated by volatile crude oil and naphtha feedstock prices.
