Dow Surges 326 Points Amid Weaker Jobs Report and Falling Yields
The Dow Jones Industrial Average experienced a significant boost on Friday, October 2, as investors reacted to weaker-than-expected employment figures in the United States. The index surged by 326.90 points or 0.64 percent to reach 51,252.47, with Caterpillar leading the gainers with a 3.39% increase to $854.34.
The disappointing job report showed an increase of only 29,000 jobs in September, falling short of economists' predictions of between 84,000 and 90,000 new positions. This led investors to reassess their expectations for the Federal Reserve's interest rate policy ahead of its October meeting.
Nvidia and Intel also contributed to the market's upward momentum, gaining 2.10% and 3.21%, respectively. In contrast, Nike shares fell by 6.12% due to a drop in annual revenue estimates.
