Dow Surges on Microsoft, AI Stocks as Oil Prices Remain High
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose by 469.07 points on Friday to end at 51,819.05, while the S&P 500 gained 37.96 points and the Nasdaq Composite increased by 125.51 points.
The gains were largely driven by Microsoft's positive performance after unveiling new capabilities in its Copilot app, including a coding tool and an always-on AI agent.
Akamai Technologies also surged after announcing an $11.6 billion cloud services deal with AI leader Anthropic, which includes a warrant that could give Anthropic up to 5% of Akamai's stock.
The market sentiment was influenced by various factors, including high oil prices and rising US Treasury yields, as well as the potential for an interest rate increase by the Federal Reserve in October.
