Dow Surges Over 200 Points as Communication Services Lead Gains
The US stock market experienced a significant surge on Monday, with the Dow Jones index rising over 200 points. The Dow traded up 0.50% to 51,940.52, while the NASDAQ climbed 0.82% to 26,740.27 and the S&P 500 gained 0.59% to 7,695.90.
The communication services sector saw a notable increase, jumping by 2%. In contrast, energy stocks fell by 1%. The Chicago Fed National Activity Index declined in August, falling to -0.04 compared to a revised reading of +0.08 in the previous month.
Several companies experienced significant price movements due to various factors. Greenland Mines Ltd (NASDAQ:GRML) saw its shares surge 162% to $7.47 following historic U.S.-Denmark Greenland security headlines. Additionally, Greenland Energy Co (NASDAQ:GLND) gained 141% to $2.89 as the spotlight on Greenland's strategic value and resource potential increased.
However, not all companies fared well. IM Cannabis Corp (NASDAQ:IMCC) shares dropped 33% to $2.84, while Moleculin Biotech Inc (NASDAQ:MBRX) fell 29% to $0.55. Research Frontiers Inc (NASDAQ:REFR) also declined, dropping 27% to $0.47.
