Dreamforce Draws Record Crowd Amid Debate Over Pace of AI Development
The city of San Francisco welcomed over 43,000 attendees to Moscone Center for Dreamforce, Salesforce's annual conference. This event has become one of the largest conferences in the year, with roads closed and hotels and restaurants prepared for the influx of visitors.
The main topic of discussion at this year's conference is artificial intelligence (AI) and its growing role in business. Scott Stafford, an attendee who has been to the conference eight times, expressed his enthusiasm for AI advancements, saying 'I love the tech. I love Claude. I use AI all over the place. Salesforce and Claude force are going to be amazing.'
However, not everyone is optimistic about the rapid development of AI. Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic, has called for a slowdown in the growth of advanced AI capabilities, citing concerns about its increasing capability and potential dangers. Yashas Hariprasad, a computer science professor, agreed that there is a need to slow down the development of agentic AI.
The conference will feature a conversation between Benioff and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman on 'Advancing the AI Frontier' and its use for business tools. Ken Goldberg, a robotics professor at UC Berkeley, described the current moment in artificial intelligence as transformative, pointing to recent advances in AI capabilities.
