Edge Drops Support for Legacy Ad Blockers Amid MV3 Transition
Microsoft Edge will discontinue support for older ad blockers by the end of 2026 as part of its transition to the Manifest Version 3 (MV3) standard. The move affects extensions like uBlock Origin, which has a significant user base despite only three of the affected 58 extensions having MV3 versions.
Users of uBlock Origin can switch to the lighter version, uBlock Origin Lite, or opt for other alternatives such as Opera, which still supports existing MV2 extensions. Microsoft plans to migrate consumer users by the end of this year and enterprise users in early 2027.
The gradual disabling of remaining MV2 extensions will start in August 2026, with warnings provided beforehand. This change will first affect Edge's Canary, Dev, and Beta channels before being extended to the stable version over the coming months.
