Efteling's Refillable Cups Dry Up Amid Sugar Criticism
The Efteling theme park in the Netherlands has seen a surge in demand for its refillable soft-drink cups, known as D'n Dorstlesser, following public criticism from the food advocacy group Foodwatch.
The cups, which cost 17 euros and can be refilled every 45 minutes, have sold out due to increased interest after Foodwatch raised objections two weeks earlier.
According to Foodwatch, using a cup for an entire day would equal 130 sugar cubes, exceeding the World Health Organization's (WHO) strictest guideline for free sugars per day by ten times.
Foodwatch argued that the park was promoting unlimited sugar consumption and building brand loyalty with Coca-Cola at a young age. They attributed the increased demand to the design of the offering, stating 'unlimited refilling as a revenue model, not as a neutral service.'
