Egypt and Chevron Advance Aphrodite Gas Project Talks
Egypt and Chevron are moving forward on the Aphrodite Gas Project, which could solidify Egypt's position as a key energy hub in the Eastern Mediterranean.
The two companies held talks via videoconference to review progress on the project and explore opportunities for expanded cooperation in regional gas development.
According to a statement from Egypt's petroleum ministry, the discussions focused on expediting commercial and technical arrangements needed to link the Aphrodite gas field offshore Cyprus to Egypt's existing gas infrastructure.
The Aphrodite field is estimated to contain around 3.5 trillion cubic feet of recoverable natural gas resources and is expected to contribute to regional energy security once operational, supporting Egypt's gas processing and export ambitions.
Under the current development timeline, a final investment decision is targeted for 2027, with first gas production expected in 2031.
