Egypt is set to build its first large-scale artificial intelligence data centre, worth $1 billion and powered by Nvidia technology. The project aims to establish Egypt as a regional hub for AI infrastructure in the Middle East and Africa.

The data centre will start with a 20 MW facility worth $200 million in its initial three-year phase, built by a partnership between Vodafone Business, Elsewedy Electric, and Cassava Technologies. Nvidia's accelerated computing technologies will be leveraged to power the AI models.

This move comes as the US and China vie for influence in Egypt's AI market. Ahead of Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to Egypt last week, Huawei had bid to build a data center in Egypt, prompting Washington to push a rival offer from Nvidia, AMD, and Microsoft.
