Embraer E2 GPS Reception Issue Hits Global Airline Operations

A GPS signal-reception problem affecting Embraer E2 regional jets has disrupted airline operations worldwide, leading to flight cancellations and delays.

The issue affected airlines in several countries, including Azul Linhas Aéreas Brasileiras, KLM Cityhopper, and Porter Airlines. On September 22, Azul temporarily halted E195-E2 departures for nearly three hours as aircraft completed existing flights and remained on the ground.

Honeywell, the supplier of the Primus Epic 2 avionics suite used in the E2 family, is actively investigating the cause of the problem. Embraer has assured that the issue does not compromise flight safety, but it may disrupt schedules. The manufacturer also stated that other navigation capabilities and operating procedures allow crews to continue operating safely when GPS information is unavailable or unreliable.
