Embraer Rebuilds After Boeing Merger Collapse

The collapse of its joint venture with Boeing in April 2020 posed a significant challenge for Embraer Group. The company had to reintegrate Embraer Commercial Aviation (ECA) into its broader organization, a process that required significant resources.

Embraer spent $120 million carving out ECA from the rest of the company, making customers hesitant to order E-Jets until the consequences of the deal became clear.

The joint venture also left Embraer with a significant financial burden. An arbitrator awarded ECA $150 million in breakup fees that Boeing had to pay, but an ECA officer noted that much of this money went to lawyers.
