Kenosha Residents Demand Pause on Microsoft Data Center Project
Kenosha residents are pushing for a pause on Microsoft's data center project in their area. The tech company announced plans to build a data center on 240 acres of land, around eight miles southwest of its existing campus in Mount Pleasant.
The city and Microsoft signed a non-disclosure agreement in May 2024, which was terminated by the company on June 22, 2026. Despite this, few details about the project have been shared with the public.
Residents have expressed concerns over environmental and noise pollution, as well as worries about energy and water demand. Some are calling for a moratorium to be passed, citing the lack of transparency in the project's development.
A spokesperson for Microsoft stated that the company is 'fully committed to advancing and operating datacenters responsibly,' but did not provide further information on the project's timeline or specifics.
