Emirates is temporarily swapping its usual Boeing 777-300ER for an Airbus A380 on one of its Dubai to Jakarta flights, giving passengers a rare glimpse of the world's largest passenger plane. The special operation will see EK358 depart Dubai at 1050 on August 8th and arrive in Jakarta at 2225, with the return leg departing as EK359 from Jakarta at 0045 on August 9th.

The A380 fleet is significant for Emirates, with an ongoing retrofit process valued in the billions and Premium Economy being added. The jet offers a stronger premium and capacity point than the 777-300ER, providing a more spacious cabin and a larger total seat count.

Emirates has 88 active A380-800s, with 28 models parked due to the retrofit process. The airline intends to keep flying the aircraft through to the 2040s and will likely be the last operator of the jet, as its reliance on it is significant and no dedicated replacement is offered.
