Eni SpA Expands into Humanoid Robotics with Generative Bionics Partnership
Eni SpA (E) is expanding its technology strategy to include humanoid robotics as part of its push towards digitalization and operational efficiency. The company has entered into a memorandum of understanding with Generative Bionics, an Italian deep-tech firm developing advanced robotic systems powered by Physical AI.
The agreement will see Eni test and evaluate the use of GENE.01, a humanoid robot developed by Generative Bionics, for inspection, teleoperation, remote assistance, and other complex industrial tasks. The partnership aims to improve workplace safety, enhance operational efficiency, and strengthen data-driven monitoring across Eni's asset base.
Eni will also assess whether its industrial sites can support the production, assembly, and testing of advanced robotic systems, including cooperation on battery use, disposal, and recycling. Additionally, the company's Materials & Computing division will collaborate with Generative Bionics to develop materials and design solutions for GENE.01's foot and footwear system.
The partnership reflects a broader trend in the energy sector, where companies like Shell plc (SHEL) and Chevron Corporation (CVX) are already using robotic systems to support operations and improve efficiency. Eni's initiative takes this a step further by combining humanoid robotics with Physical AI and advanced computing resources.
