Entergy Seeks Court Order to Silence Google Data Center Coverage
A legal dispute is unfolding in Arkansas over the construction of Google's massive data center project in West Memphis. Entergy Arkansas, the utility company providing power to the region, has asked a federal judge to order two news outlets to remove articles detailing the terms of its deal with Google.
The controversy centers around records that were 'accidentally' released through a public records request and are considered confidential trade secrets by Entergy. The documents reveal that Google will pay $526 million for a solar farm to help power the data center, accounting for one-third of the project's estimated $1.6 billion cost.
Entergy and Google plan to fund the remaining two-thirds through a nearly $6 monthly rate hike for customers. This move has raised concerns about the financial burden on local residents and businesses.
