Entergy Sues Newspapers Over Confidential Data Center Details

Entergy has sued the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette and Arkansas Times for publishing confidential details about its agreements with Google regarding the utility's planned data center in West Memphis.

The print media outlets acquired nonpublic documents pertaining to those agreements from a private citizen who obtained them through a public records request.

According to the reports, Google will pay Entergy approximately one-third of the cost to build the Cypress Solar plant that will power its West Memphis data center, $526 million, contrary to Google's previous assurances that it would cover the full $1.6 billion to build the facility.

However, Entergy claims that the Democrat-Gazette made a mathematical error in accounting for only 12 months of Google payments instead of the full 20-year term of the agreement, during which Google will pay over $2 billion, more than the cost to build Cypress Solar.
