Ethernet Switch Market Surges Amid GenAI Boom
The Ethernet switch market is experiencing a boom, thanks in part to the growth of GenAI systems. According to IDC data, revenues rose by 43.4 percent to $18.91 billion in the second quarter of this year, with a 23.1 percent sequential increase from Q1 2026. The router market also grew significantly, up 22.8 percent to $4.51 billion.
Cisco's Ethernet revenues grew by 36.2 percent to $5.43 billion in Q2 2026, while Nvidia saw a massive growth of 2.8X thanks to its GenAI systems business and attachment rate for its Spectrum-X switches. Arista Networks also grew 37.6 percent to $2.53 billion.
In the datacenter market, sales of Ethernet switches with 800 Gb/sec ports rose by 6.1X year on year to $5.07 billion, driven by adoption in GenAI clusters. The cost per port is decreasing as hyperscalers and cloud builders negotiate discounts and vendors make up for revenue losses due to component shortages.
