Ethiopian Airlines Bolsters Cargo Fleet with $5 Billion Boeing Deal
Ethiopian Airlines has placed an order for eight Boeing 777-8 Freighters and two 777 Freighters, expanding its cargo fleet to meet growing demand. This is the carrier's second purchase of the 777X family, doubling its total order book to 16 aircraft across passenger and freighter variants.
The deal includes purchase rights for up to eight additional 777-8 Freighters, which could further boost Ethiopian Airlines' cargo capacity. The airline aims to become one of Africa's leading air cargo operators and logistics gateways.
Ethiopian Airlines' CEO, Mesfin Tasew, said the new aircraft will enhance the carrier's ability to serve customers worldwide with greater payload capacity, operational flexibility, efficiency, and sustainability.
