Ethiopian Airlines Expands Cargo Fleet with Boeing Freighter Order
Ethiopian Airlines has expanded its cargo operations with a new agreement to acquire 10 additional freighter aircraft from Boeing. The deal includes eight Boeing 777-8 Freighters and two Boeing 777 Freighters, marking a significant step in modernizing the airline’s cargo fleet. The move is aimed at boosting cargo capacity, improving operational efficiency, and meeting the rising global demand for air freight.
Group Chief Executive Officer Mesfin Tasew highlighted the importance of the agreement, stating it strengthens Ethiopian Airlines’ position in the global air cargo market. He noted that the new aircraft will enhance payload capacity, operational flexibility, efficiency, and sustainability, playing a crucial role in facilitating international trade and strengthening supply chain connections.
Tasew also emphasized the continuation of the airline’s long-term partnership with Boeing, calling it a historic moment as Ethiopian Airlines becomes the first African carrier to order the new Boeing 777-8 Freighter. Brad McMullen, Senior Vice President of Commercial Sales and Marketing at Boeing, praised the airline’s confidence in Boeing’s aircraft, reflecting the growing demand in global air cargo.
