Ethiopian Airlines Orders 10 Boeing 777 Freighters to Boost Capacity
Boeing has announced that Ethiopian Airlines will be purchasing eight all-new 777-8 freighter aircraft and two current-model 777 cargo jets. This order is significant as it helps Boeing close the sales gap with Airbus in next-generation large freighters.
The demand for widebody freighters is increasing due to supply chain and engine issues affecting the production of passenger aircraft, which often carry significant amounts of freight.
Boeing's 777-8 has a maximum payload of 118 metric tons, nearly as much as a 747-400 jumbo jet. It also offers improved fuel efficiency, better operating costs per ton, and reduced noise impact on the ground compared to other cargo jets.
Ethiopian Airlines will use these new aircraft to expand its network, connecting over 70 markets worldwide with 18 Boeing aircraft, including 12 777s, two 767 medium widebody jets, and four 737-800 converted narrowbody freighters.
