Ethiopian Airlines has placed an order for eight Boeing 777-8 Freighters and two current-generation 777 Freighters, significantly expanding its long-term cargo capacity. The airline is also set to receive eight additional purchase rights for the 777-8F.

The ten-aircraft agreement is part of Ethiopian's Vision 2040 strategy to expand its global network. With this order, the airline now has a total of 102 firm aircraft orders, with 84 being Boeing aircraft scheduled for delivery over the coming seven years.

Ethiopian currently operates one of Africa's largest cargo fleets, serving more than 70 markets across the continent and beyond. The airline's cargo operation demonstrated its strategic importance during the pandemic, when Ethiopian rapidly redeployed capacity towards freight while passenger traffic collapsed.
