EU Orders Google to Share Search Data Under Digital Markets Act

The European Union's Digital Markets Act has taken another step in regulating Google's dominance. The EU Commission has ordered Google to share anonymized search data with rival search engines and provide better interoperability for companies using the Google Android operating system.

Under the ruling, competitors of artificial intelligence services will have equal access to features on Google's Android devices by January 2027. This includes AI chatbots with search features, which are eligible for the shared data.

The data sharing is crucial for developing and optimizing third-party search engines, according to the EU Commission. The ruling outlines ways to anonymize the data, developed in collaboration with privacy experts.
