EVA Air, Microsoft Team Up for Sustainable Aviation Fuel Program

EVA Air and Microsoft have teamed up with AIT Worldwide Logistics for a two-year program promoting the use of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) made from used cooking oil.

The initiative, which includes Taiwan's Formosa Petrochemical as a key supplier, aims to reduce CO₂ emissions by around 15 thousand tons in its first year. This is expected to be achieved through Microsoft's supply chain, specifically flights departing from Taiwan where EVA Air will provide SAF linked to the airline's operations.

The use of SAF can reportedly reduce lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions by up to 80% compared to conventional jet fuel, and this program demonstrates a growing trend towards more environmentally friendly aviation practices. EVA Air has already been using SAF since 2025 on flights in Asia, Europe, and North America, with a five-year procurement agreement with Formosa Petrochemical.
