EVGA Left GPU Market After Years of Selling Nvidia Cards at a Loss

A former EVGA product manager has shared insight into why the company left the GPU market. Brendon Ray Hedrick, who worked at EVGA between 2016 and 2019, revealed that one of the biggest problems was making enough money from graphics cards.

According to Hedrick, some Nvidia RTX cards were sold at a loss by EVGA before it quit the GPU market. To make up for this, EVGA had to rely on its expensive custom graphics cards, which gave the company some room to actually make money.

However, these premium models created another problem: customers would see Nvidia's advertised starting price and compare it with significantly more expensive EVGA models. This made it difficult for EVGA to justify the higher prices of its custom cards.
