Excel Breaks 40-Year Rule: Single Cell Now Holds Multiple Values
Microsoft has made a significant change to its Excel spreadsheet software by allowing a single cell to contain multiple distinct values. This breaks a 40-year rule where one cell could only hold one value.
The new feature, called Lists, enables users to create a list within a cell by selecting the Insert > List option or pressing Ctrl+J. The values appear together visually in a single cell but are recognized individually by Excel.
This change is particularly useful for project trackers, surveys, and other everyday spreadsheets where related data needs to be kept together. Users can edit individual items and filter by one or more values in the list, making it easier to work with complex data structures.
