Excel Bug Fix Released, But Only for One Version

Microsoft has released a partial fix for an Excel bug that causes paste operations to fail.

The hotfix applies only to Excel 2016 and may still come unstuck around conditional formatting.

The issue was introduced in a September security update meant to address remote code execution and information disclosure vulnerabilities, but it ended up causing another problem: 'In Microsoft Excel 2024, 2021, 2019, and 2016, the paste operation might fail silently.'

Users reported that when they tried to paste content, the source remained selected and the destination was unmodified.

The bug did not provide any indication of failure, such as a beep or error message.
