Excel Paste Bug Fixed in Partial Update from Microsoft
A recent security update for Microsoft Excel introduced a bug that affected pasting functionalities across the spreadsheet software. The issue, which was identified as 'KB5002914', was released on September 8, 2026.
The bug caused the paste operation to fail silently, without providing any error message or sound. This meant that users would try to paste content into a destination cell, but the source cell would remain selected and the destination cell would not be modified.
A temporary workaround was suggested by Microsoft, which involves selecting 'Paste Special' from the Home tab in Excel. However, this fix is only applicable for conditional formatting issues.
A hotfix has since been released by Microsoft to address the issue, but it only applies to Excel 2016. Other versions of Excel, including Office LTSC 2021 and 2024, have been officially fixed.
