F-15EX Eagle II Nears Deployment as Boeing Seeks Global Sales
The Boeing F-15EX Eagle II is a cutting-edge fighter jet that has taken a significant step towards deployment in overseas bases. The F-15EX, an upgraded version of the F-15 that's been in service since the 1970s, boasts advanced avionics and a fly-by-wire control system, making it comparable to modern fighter jets like the F-35 Lightning II.
The jet has undergone significant upgrades, including the ability to carry up to 12 AMRAAM air-to-air missiles or a maximum payload of 29,500 pounds. This is an increase from its predecessor, the F-15E Strike Eagle, which could only carry eight missiles.
After being delayed for several years, the first F-15EX was delivered to Eglin Air Force Base in Florida in 2021. Now, another model is making its final preparations for deployment at Kadena Air Force Base in Japan. The US Air Force has stated that the F-15EX represents continued investment in Kadena and the modernization of its permanent fighter force.
The F-15EX is also generating interest from other countries, including Israel, Singapore, South Korea, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia. Boeing predicts a production run of 104 jets, although this number may change based on budget fluctuations.
