FAA Certifies Boeing's Smallest 737 MAX Variant for Commercial Service
Boeing has received an amended type certificate from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for its Boeing 737-7, clearing it to enter commercial service. The certification is a culmination of a multi-year development and testing program that began in 2018.
The program included over 1,000 hours of flight and ground testing, extensive system safety analyses, and human factors reviews. A potential condition related to the engine anti-ice system was identified during testing, prompting Boeing to update the system.
According to Stephanie Pope, president and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, 'This important certification validates the rigour of our airplane's design and recognises the determination and resilience of our 737 MAX development team.'
