FAA Clears Boeing 737 MAX Software Glitch as No Safety Risk
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has cleared Boeing's 737 MAX software glitch as no safety risk, removing a major obstacle to the certification of the 737 MAX 10. The FAA made this decision after reviewing the software issue and determining that pilots retain full control of the aircraft and receive clear cockpit indications when the anomaly occurs.
The software glitch can cause the vertical navigation system (VNAV) to disengage following certain missed-approach procedures, but it does not compromise the pilots' ability to control the aircraft. Boeing is developing a permanent software correction, while the FAA prepares operational guidance for airlines.
Although this decision removes a major regulatory obstacle, certification of the MAX 10 is not yet guaranteed. The FAA will consider further action if new information emerges.
