FAA Clears Boeing MAX 10 Certification Despite Software Glitch
The Federal Aviation Administration's Corrective Action Review Board has given Boeing's 737 MAX 10 aircraft the green light for certification, but not without caveats. Last Friday, the board determined that a flight-management software glitch, which had been delaying the certification process, does not pose a safety concern. The board stated that pilots retain full control of the aircraft and that flight crew indications remain clear and unambiguous.
Certification of the MAX 10, which appeared imminent on September 16 before stalling, is now back on track. The FAA expects approval as soon as later this month. However, the board's decision to clear the certification does not mean the software issue has been resolved. These are distinct problems, and only one has been addressed.
