FAA Clears Boeing's Largest 737 MAX Variant for Certification
The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has cleared the way for the certification of Boeing's largest variant of its best-selling narrow-body jet, the 737 MAX 10. The decision follows a review by the FAA's Corrective Action Review Board, which determined that a software glitch in some 737 MAX flight computers poses no safety concern.
The issue at hand involves automated flight guidance during an unusual landing scenario, where pilots may not be able to access certain features. However, aviation officials claim that pilots retain full control of the aircraft and receive clear and unambiguous indications throughout the process.
The FAA's decision is seen as a major relief for Boeing, which has nearly 1,500 MAX 10s on order from airlines. The certification of the MAX 10 could happen as early as later this month, according to aviation officials.
