FAA Delays Boeing 737-10 Certification Over Software Issue

The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has delayed certification of Boeing's 737-10 due to a software issue affecting flight-guidance systems.

Bryan Bedford, FAA Administrator, announced the delay without providing a revised approval date. The issue arises from GE Aerospace-supplied software that can cause automated vertical navigation to revert to a simpler pitch mode after a missed approach followed by a flight-path change.

Boeing is working on guidance and software changes to address the problem, which increases workload during go-arounds according to the FAA.

Airlines such as WestJet have experienced no related in-service issues but are taking precautions. Boeing anticipates its next software update in 2028 and aims to accelerate it following operator feedback.
