FAA Delays Certification of Boeing 737 MAX 10 Over Software Issue
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has announced that the certification of the Boeing 737 MAX 10 will be delayed due to a potential software issue. The agency is assessing whether this poses a wider safety issue, which means another setback for the American plane maker.
Boeing had hoped that the MAX 10 would receive certification this month, with CEO Kelly Ortberg saying earlier this month that they were hoping for the 'green light' on the variant soon. However, the FAA has yet to determine whether the software issue affects the safety of flight and is delaying the certification until it is satisfied that there is no wider issue.
The software issue in question affects the vertical navigation system, which may interfere when an aircraft misses an approach and is forced to complete a go-around. Pilots are trained to operate the aircraft without this software, but the concern is whether this would maintain a suitable workload for the crew.
