FAA Delays MAX 10 Certification Over Software Issue

The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has delayed certification of Boeing's 737 MAX 10 due to a software issue that could cause pilots to lose access to automated flight guidance during a specific landing scenario. The FAA will evaluate the problem and ensure it does not pose an issue before granting approval.

Boeing disclosed the issue on September 26, stating that it had notified operators and was developing a software update. The company said it would continue following the FAA's lead through certification.

FAA Administrator Bryan Bedford confirmed that the review will affect the MAX 10's certification timing, but did not specify how long the delay would be. Bedford stated that a correction could come relatively quickly, although he couldn't say whether that would take days, weeks, or months.
