FAA Grants Certification to Boeing's Delayed 737 MAX 7 Aircraft

After nearly a decade of review, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has granted certification to Boeing's 737 MAX 7 aircraft. The smallest version of the single-aisle MAX plane was meant for delivery in 2019, but its release was delayed due to fatal crashes in 2018 and 2019.

The FAA required Boeing to complete 441 flight tests over 686 hours before granting certification. This process was prolonged by new requirements under federal legislation following the two fatal MAX crashes.

Boeing shares rose 6.9% after the announcement, which the company had telegraphed in recent weeks as a key milestone in its comeback.
