FAA Grants Emissions Exemption for Boeing 777F, Bridges Gap Until 777-8F
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has granted Boeing an emissions exemption for its 777F freighter, allowing the manufacturer to continue selling the aircraft beyond 2027. The approval permits Boeing to sell up to 35 additional 777Fs that will be eligible for a Certificate of Airworthiness.
The decision provides relief to the widebody freighter market, which has been facing a supply shortage. By extending the lifespan of the 777F, Boeing can bridge the period until its next-generation 777-8F reaches the market, originally expected in 2027 but delayed until 2028 due to production issues.
Boeing recorded 15 777 freighter orders and 35 deliveries last year, with 18 delivered so far this year. The exemption takes effect on January 1, 2028, covering the issuance of first certificates of airworthiness for up to 35 777F airplanes through January 1, 2031.
