FAA Investigates Boeing 737 Max Software Glitch Amid Certification Concerns

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating a software glitch affecting certain Boeing 737 Max jets. The issue arises during aborted landings, known as go-arounds, where pilots are utilizing precision approaches with autopilot engaged and make alterations to pre-programmed flight plans.

The flaw in the flight management computer can cause the vertical navigation system (VNAV) to disengage, transitioning to a more basic level of automated pitch control. VNAV is designed to maintain planned altitudes at different waypoints along the flight path.

Boeing acknowledged the issue late last month and emphasized its commitment to safety, stating that engineering teams are working on a software update to resolve the glitch permanently.
